Groups

As part of our counselling work for older people in Wellington, we offer several regular groups.

We value being accessible to clients and we aim to provide transport assistance to anyone needing it. All our venues are wheel chair accessible and walker friendly.

Our counsellors are experienced group facilitators who particularly enjoy working with the strengths and resourcefulness that older adults have in addressing life issues. They are all members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

We ask group participants for a koha.

We welcome enquiries about or referrals to our groups. Many group participants have already met us in counselling, but we welcome enquiries from other people, and referrals from other organisations to our groups. We would follow up directly with anyone reffered to us to introduce ourselves and discuss what is involved.

SAYING YES TO TODAY

LIVING FULLY IN THE PRESENT, WHATEVER THE CHALLENGES

The purpose of the group is for participants to increase their wellbeing and to live mindfully in the present. We will look at concerns and positive memories from the past, worries and hopes for the future, how these may impact on us from day to day, and how we can continue living satisfying lives.

Two-hour sessions are held weekly for four weeks, and are planned for Wellington and Kapiti twice a year:

TAMING ANXIETY

MANAGING OUR ANXIETY SO WE DO MORE/MOST OF THE THINGS WE NEED AND WANT TO

The purpose of the group is for participants to develop strategies to manage their anxiety, increase their wellbeing and start, or re-start some of the things anxiety has been limiting in their lives – such as decision making, activities and friendships.

Two hour sessions are held weekly for six weeks, and are planned for Wellington and Kapiti twice a year.

COUNSELLING GROUP

Groups for clients and ex-clients who wish to continue making changes, managing uninvited change in their lives and /or having the support of a counsellor and other group members.

Two hour sessions are held for six weeks in Wellington in the second half of the year.

TAILORED GROUPS

We tailor groups for people who have common interests, such as carers of partners or parents. We also work with other organisations such as Alzheimers Wellington and rest homes to co-operate running groups for specific interests and needs.
